AS GOOD AS IT GETS – AND THEN SOME!

HARSH TOPS OFF THE SPEC OF NEWQUIP’S FABULOUS NEW V8 SCANIAS

Some trucks create a vacuum around themselves simply because people have to draw breath when looking at what’s in front of them. Trucks like Newquip’s latest pair of 660hp V8 Scania tractors, on which every possible detail has been worked out and delivered to the highest possible standard.

“Yes, we’ve gone to town a bit on these two” says Gill Thomas, Newquip’s Transport Manager. “Travelling weekly the length and breadth of the UK, they are very much a ‘home from home’ for their drivers Steve and Sam, as well as being instantly recognisable and a great advert for the company. We very much see our drivers and their trucks as Newquip’s ambassadors to the industries we serve, so we want both to be the absolute best!”

Based just off the A1(M) at Leeming Bar in North Yorkshire, the new trucks typically operate with either walking floor or curtainsider trailers, so therefore have to be specced accordingly. Gill notes that “we chose HARSH for the hydraulics principally because their system is compact, lightweight and very simple to operate. We can discharge loads from the walking floors quickly and reliably. HARSH’s whole wet kit installation is neat, well engineered and very space efficient. And it’s obviously a benefit that HARSH can always provide speedy, local service for us too.”

With the trucks fitted with the required hydraulic components, Gill then asked if HARSH could design and fit custom made catwalk / chassis infill panels to complete the trucks’ final specification. “We didn’t really know if HARSH could really do this” says Gill, “but they understood exactly what we were looking for, said they could do it, and on that basis we asked them to proceed. I have to say that the finished items are of quite exceptional quality, and complement the rest of the specification perfectly.

HARSH also helped out with some of the final painting too. So yes, I’m super – impressed with everything they did for us!”

Newquip is a leading supplier of farm equipment for the UK’s pig and poultry industries, as well as being the sole mainland distributor for the highly renowned European ‘Big Dutchman’ product range which offers farmers bespoke design, service and support solutions. In addition, Newquip’s trucks are also involved in the woodchip and biomass business, moving large quantities of material in walking floor trailers for North Yorkshire Woodchip. The new tractors therefore have to be equally adept at working with curtainsiders one day, then walking floors the next.

As well as their premium S Cabs and V8 engines, these 6×2 tractors have also been built in a lifting tag axle configuration that offers notable advantages in both manoeuvrability and traction when working in off-road situations such as unmade roads and forest tracks.

Speaking for HARSH, managing director Adam Hargreaves notes “we have been delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Newquip on these superb new vehicles. In particular, we have been able to demonstrate not just our commitment to the highest quality of our finished products, but also our ability to offer a whole range of individual solutions and services for whatever the customer might be looking for.

That’s what really makes HARSH different.”
