HYMAS OPTS FOR HARSH WET KITS ON NEW LIGHTWEIGHT VOLVO FHs
ALFRED HYMAS OPTS FOR HARSH WET KITS ON FIVE NEW WEIGHT – SAVING VOLVO FHs
One of the most iconic UK bulk tipper operators, Yorkshire – based Alfred Hymas has for the first time specified HARSH tractor wet kits. These have now been installed on five new weight – saving Volvo FHs.
Optimally configured for maximum productivity, the most notable feature of the five new 460hp FH ‘I-Save’ trucks is their smaller and lighter centre axle fitted with 17.5” wheels, a configuration that saves some 200kgs over a standard 6×2. Completing their carefully considered tipper specification, each truck features a HARSH wet kit that includes a compact, side – mounted aluminium oil tank and simplified hose layout in a configuration that has been designed to be as light as possible.
Today’s Alfred Hymas vehicle fleet features over 70 artics employed on a roughly even split between agricultural and quarry work. Looking at the former, director Stewart Hymas says “We’re working in and out of the docks moving mostly soya, rape seed, maize and feed ingredients for all the major agri businesses, as well as collecting wheat and barley from UK farmers – so obviously the fleet is carefully specified to reflect this type of work.”
Having run a wide number of different trucks, those most commonly wearing the famous Hymas blue are now coming from Volvo, Renault and Mercedes-Benz.
Looking after the fleet on a daily basis is Stewart’s brother Robert who comments “The HARSH wet kit has minimal weight, is easy to install and easy to operate, so therefore meets our needs exactly. We’ve worked with HARSH over a number of years, and we like them for being a local company, for their responsiveness, their service and their enthusiasm. These things are very important to us an make a real contribution to how we run our business.”
Robert also points out the real productivity advantages of their latest reduced – weight FH tractors, commenting that “If we’re doing a typical 3 loads a day and gaining 200kgs each time that’s an extra 600kgs the truck is carrying every 24hrs. In turn, that’s another 3 tonnes a week over an average 10 year life of the truck. And that’s for just one vehicle. You do the maths – it’s huge!”
Speaking for HARSH, director Grant Faulkner says “By combining high performance and reliability with efficiency and low weight, HARSH wet kits are the ideal choice of tipping hydraulics for every type of tractor unit. We are naturally delighted to have had our equipment chosen by one of the UK’s most highly regarded bulk hauliers, and will continue to provide Alfred Hymas with a first class standard of after sales support.”
